ImmunoDOT Mono G, ImmunoDOT Mono M, ImmunoDOT ToRCH and ImmunoDOT ToRCH IgM (Export Only)
detect CMV antibodies. Since CMV is a common cause of glandular fever or mononucleosis-like
syndrome (MLS) and cannot be clinically distinguished from EBV infections, CMV is included
in both ImmunoDOT Mono products.
ImmunoDOT Mono M and Mono G tests are designed for the serodiagnosis of
mononucleosis-like syndrome. The ImmunoDOT Mono M test detects heterophil antibodies
which only appear during EBV infections and disappear as the disease wanes.
It also detects the specific IgM antibody response to EBV viral capsid antigen (VCA)
and cytomegalovirus (CMV). The ImmunoDOT Mono G test detects the specific IgG response
to EBV Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA), cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Toxoplasma gondii.
The combination of the two ImmunoDOT tests provides a complete and comprehensive
diagnosis of mononucleosis syndrome.
ImmunoDOT TORCH kits also include a CMV dot.
This analyte is included as part of a comprehensive prenatal screening protocol.
In the United States, approximately 1 - 2% of all fetuses are born with congenital
CMV infection acquired when the mother undergoes primary infection or reactivation
of latent infection during pregnancy. Approximately 5 - 10% of infants become
infected with CMV at delivery or shortly thereafter.
